Dismissal Guide
Dismissal time at Pine Crest Elementary School is a hectic, exciting, congested, and potentially dangerous time of day. Scores of parents are arriving in vehicles and on foot with younger children prior to our 3:00 dismissal bell. The result is a huge traffic congestion problem in our parking lot and on Hayden Ave. In addition, the gathering of adults and children outside our front wing is often distracting for students and teachers, who are still doing school work. Given that we want to insure the safety of our students at all times and maintain a focused learning environment right up to the end of the school day, we need your assistance.
Therefore, if you are driving a vehicle to pick up your student, please consider the following:
- Since we are concerned that students are moving too quickly and dangerously into the street and the parking lot in order to meet drivers, please instruct your children to be alert, move cautiously, and meet you at the curb;
- When driving, be vigilant, courteous and aware of pedestrians and other vehicles at all times;
- Park above or below the school on Hayden Ave. or on a side street and walk onto campus or have your student meet you at your car e.g. arrange to meet your child at the top of the stairs behind the school on Maytum Ave., up the block at the corner of MacFarlane and Hayden, or across the street on Pine Crest Way;
- Avoid waiting in a line of vehicles on Hayden Ave. thereby blocking our bus loading zone and entry to our parking lot;
- When pulling into the parking lot, stay to the right and do not leave your vehicle unattended;
- Encourage your children to come directly to meet you, load quickly and move along; and
- Drive slowly and carefully at all times.
- Supervise younger children and monitor their play as you wait for school to dismiss;
- Use a level 1 (whisper) or level 2 (conversation) voice to help maintain a reasonable noise level;
- Congregate on the lawn area next to CASTLE;
- Go to the Area 3 Sunshaded Lunch Benches and meet your Pine Crest student there.
If you are walking onto our campus to pick up your child, please consider the following:
