The Multi-Age Program at Pine Crest
Pine Crest Elementary is a K-5 Multi-Age Program School where all classrooms are multi-graded. Our Multi-Age Program embraces two elements of Progressive Education:
- Respect for diversity
- Development of socially engaged intelligence
- working together with parents to create academically challenging classrooms with an emphasis on an individualized and student-centered approach
- facilitating parent participation in a wide variety of meaningful ways
- working with one another to mentor and share their years of experience and expertise in education
- recognizing learning as a developmental process, in which students progress at different rates and styles
- learning within the greater community, and outreach to connect with both Park Side Elementary and Brook Haven Middle Schools
- classroom configurations that are: K - 1 , K -2, and 3-5 grade combinations
- K-2 students spend the whole day in class with the same homeroom teacher
- 3-5 teachers have their own multi-age homerooms allowing 3-5 students to spend a portion of the day with their homeroom teacher and another part of the day in grade-level groups for core academic instruction
- students remain with the same teachers and classmates for up to three years allowing for the development of strong relationships that extend to family and community

- supported by a wide variety of supplemental and enrichment resources
- structured to promote the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, logic, and a rich imagination
