The Multi-Age Program at Pine Crest

Pine Crest Elementary is a K-5 Multi-Age Program School where all classrooms are multi-graded. Our Multi-Age Program embraces two elements of Progressive Education:
  • Respect for diversity
  • Development of socially engaged intelligence
The teachers in the Multi-Age Program at Pine Crest are dedicated to:
  • working together with parents to create academically challenging classrooms with an emphasis on an individualized and student-centered approach
  • facilitating parent participation in a wide variety of meaningful ways
  • working with one another to mentor and share their years of experience and expertise in education
  • recognizing learning as a developmental process, in which students progress at different rates and styles
  • learning within the greater community, and outreach to connect with both Park Side Elementary and Brook Haven Middle Schools
The Multi-Age Program at Pine Crest currently features the following:
  • classroom configurations that are: K - 1 , K -2, and 3-5 grade combinations
  • K-2 students spend the whole day in class with the same homeroom teacher
  • 3-5 teachers have their own multi-age homerooms allowing 3-5 students to spend a portion of the day with their homeroom teacher and another part of the day in grade-level groups for core academic instruction
  • students remain with the same teachers and classmates for up to three years allowing for the development of strong relationships that extend to family and community
The Multi-Age configuration at Pine Crest Elementary School supports:
  • a social curriculum
  • development of interpersonal skills
  • positive discipline
  • responsible choices
Academic curriculum in the Multi-Age Program at Pine Crest is:
  • standards-based and utilizes District-adopted instructional materials
  • supported by a wide variety of supplemental and enrichment resources
  • structured to promote the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, logic, and a rich imagination
  • focused on the academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of the child
Registration for the 2008-2009 school year is now underway. Class configurations will be determined by the level of interest expressed in our Multi-Age School and the number of students enrolled at each grade level.
